THE forthcoming mixed sale of horses and ponies at Mullingar Equestrian Centre on Saturday, April 6th, has some interesting lots to offer and there is something for everybody searching for a nice horse or pony to ride.

In the pony section, the dun four-year-old filly Carrick Mina (Cloonban Adam-Roundpark Dun) looks a contender for show jumping, working hunter or eventing.

The six-year-old grey mare Slieve Bloom Dorris (Brock Lodge Buster-Slieve Bloom Gail) has hunted for two seasons and is a full sister to Slieve Bloom Jill, a winner at Hoys Windsor and Hickstead.

The four-year-old Tawnytaskin Flyer (Glenayre Silver Fox-Corry Lass) looks a nice pony to go on with and is jumping 90cm.

The bay four-year-old 160cm mare Breifine Hennessy (Watermill Swatch-Ballynoe Carnival Girl by Master Imp) looks a nice show jumping or eventing prospect.

The six-year-old bay mare Miss Mermus (Mermus R-Moy Echo) is out of the same dam as A Quidam Echo who was sold at this venue two years ago and is now currently three day eventing in England at two-star level. She is currently competing at 90-1 m.

The brown 17.3hh seven-year-old gelding Erin Flamenco (Flamenco-Erne Clover Eile) has competed in show jumping up to 1.10m and hunted for two seasons with the Drumlin Harriers, he is from the Clover Hill family and his grandsire competed successfully to grade A level in show jumping.

POLICE VISIT

An interesting addition to the sales portfolio is the forthcoming visit from a delegation from the Netherlands’ Mounted Police, to view and purchase a consignment of suitable horses, including geldings or mares, five-nine years old, 16hh to 17.2hh in height, of any colour, Irish Draught type, preferably Irish breeding, with good temperament in traffic and reasonable flat work.

The most important characteristics of a police horse are temperament and physical attributes.

The mounted police horses work in busy environments and they need to be brave and able to handle confrontational situations without becoming distressed.

Horses must be pre-entered and must be presented ridden on the day, horses valued in excess of €4,500 will also be X-rayed.

Sales will be subject to 6% seller’s commission, usual conditions of sale, entry fee €50.
