IT’s a sign that the autumn is nearly upon us as the first of the country’s premier three-year-old sales kicks off at Cavan next Tuesday. Staged as a forerunner to Wednesday’s performance renewal, this latest premier edition offers an increased catalogue of 77 pre-selected lots, the bulk of which will be aimed at the show jumping market. Continental and home grown blacktype pedigrees appear thick and fast, and notable among them are siblings to the American-based Nations Cup performer Sea Topblue (Andrew Bourns) and PLS Queen of The Castle (1.50m).
In a repeat of 12 months ago, Vivant Van’t Heffinck and Sligo Candy Boy head the numerical stallion lists, but this time positions are reversed as it is the former who leads the way with nine lots on offer. Appearing for the first time, Belmont House Stud’s Ganesh Hero Z is well represented with three, as is the Irish Sport Horse sire Echonix.
As usual, Wednesday’s performance sale offers a broad mix of horses, including numerous horses with form. Once again, the stallion lists show the dominance of OBOS Quality and Sligo Candy Boy – with five progeny apiece, while also prominent, Beach Ball and Tyson are represented by three.
