Top Lot 2020: Joe Allen’s filly foal by Casall Ask (dam by Lux Z) €18,000.
RUNNING as the first of the year’s specialist foal sales, the Goresbridge Supreme Sale of Show Jumping foals is due to take place at Barnadown next Saturday. As it has been from its inception, this well supported fixture will be staged in conjunction with the 10th anniversary edition of the Irish Breeders’ Classic show jumping championships, whose prize fund benefits from 2% of the turnover.
Demand for places was strong this year, and from nearly 70 applications, assessors Alain Storme and Brendan Doyle whittled the short list down to just 15 now catalogued. The duo were seeking foals with top-draw pedigrees, potential and movement and indeed those listed below certainly fulfil the criteria.
The catalogue itself displays the full pedigrees and photographs of each lot, as well as a useful resume of every stallion featured. Video footage of each foal can be viewed online and of course the online bidding platform will be in place.
Lot 1 unnamed, reg b f f by Emerald Van’t Ruytershof out of MHS Malbec (Plot Blue). The first offering is consigned by GBBS Ltd, and boasts one of the best pedigrees in the country. The dam was lightly jumped under rules, and more significantly is a sibling to the Sergio Alvarez Moya-ridden MHS Attraction (1.60m). Others siblings to the dam include MHS Lone Star (1.45m), while the second dam, French Ballerina is a sister to Rolo Tomasi (1.60m) and Bob Dalton (1.50m). The third dam, the well-known broodmare Naomi Campbell, needs little introduction, being a sister to Two Mills Show Time (1.60m), Splendido, and several other top performers.
Lot 2 ABC Mayflower, reg b f f by Tangelo Van de Zoethoeve out of Ardnehue Diamond Cruiser (Cruising). Breeder Pat Kehoe has enjoyed great success with his small band of broodmares, and this very well-related filly will be a attractive prospect for producers and breeders alike. She is a half-sister to both ABC Quantum Cruise (1.60m), ridden by Peter Charles, as well as to ABC Private Jet (1.45m) and ABC Caruso (1.45m). Her dam (1.30m) by Cruising, was a very good mare in her own right, winning numerous young horse championships under Francis Connors and Roddy Dean.
Lot 3 Creevyquin Amber, reg ch f f by Diamant de Semilly out of Inea VDL (Tinkas Boy). Another privately consigned individual, this filly features a stout continental maternal line. The dam is a sister to six international jumpers, among which are Amzes (1.45m) and Elinea (1.40m). Notably the dam is also a sibling to Winea who bred Cermont (1.50m).
Lot 4 unnamed, b f f by Tullibards Benny’s Legacy out of GCS Rio (Quidam Junior 1). By the highly regarded Tullibards Benny’s Legacy, this filly’s dam line needs no introduction. She is out of a full sister to Ireland’s Rio Olympic representative MHS Going Global (Greg Broderick and Athena Onassis) while another sibling to the dam is Ballypatrick Flight (1.40m). Even more significant is the presence of MHS Pembroke Lady in the pedigree, who, as a sister to the dam of this filly, bred the Tokyo performer Kilkenny (ISH). The second dam is of course the prolific mare Gowran Lady, and this filly offers buyers another chance to buy into this highly coveted and progressive family.
Lot 5 Kilbunny, reg c f by Conthargos out of Ezarah (Canturano). The first of the colts, Kilbunny is out of the jumping mare Ezarah (1.20m) who is a sister to the British WEG and Nations Cup representative Wonder Why (Spencer Roe). A regular member of winning squads, Wonder Why is also a sibling to Amos B (1.45m) and several others, while another to feature in the direct maternal line is Elmo (1.50m), ridden in Britain by Tim Wilks.
Lot 6 unnamed, reg b c f by Quel Homme de Hus out of Cenith M (Diamant de Semilly). From a solid yet progressive family, this colt is a sibling to Susan Fitzpatrick’s up and coming performer CBI Victory, a recent winner of the HSI seven-year-old qualifier at Barnadown. The second dam Wenith M, is a full sister to the smart Vermont Star (1.50m), a half-sister to Contino St Ghyvan Z (1.40m) and from the family of Crazy Boy (1.50m).
Lot 7 Leestone Cornetti, reg gr f f by Cornet Obolensky out of Leestone Cassini (Cassini 1). Carrying a useful pedigree, this filly is out of the imported dam Leestone Cassini. The dam is a sibling to Bellarina K (1.35m) and to Colour Diamond (1.30m), while the third dam is a sister to the top-class Adiamo (1.60m) and Akitus (1.50m).
Lot 8 Coco Loco RF, reg gr f f by Cohinoor VDL out of Cayenne (Cachas). By a son of Cornet Obolensky, this well-related filly is out of a sister to Freestyle 39 (1.60m), ridden for New Zealand by Bruce Goodin and the American-based Joyous (1.50m), partnered by Laura Kraut. The second dam Elegance (1.30m) counts a host of top jumpers as siblings, and from a family which includes C’est Bon (1.50m).
Lot 9 Unnamed, reg ch c f by Aganix du Seigneur out of Jacquitta (Jack Of Diamonds). Carrying an interesting dual-purpose pedigree, this colt is out of Jacquitta who jumped to 1.30m with the owner/breeder. She in turn is a full sister to Jack Diamond (1.35m) and Jackie Oh (1.30m) as well as to Cast Away (CCI3* now CCI4*-L) who won the Lion d’Angers world event seven-year-old championship in 2007. The second dam Sailing In Rain is a sister to Sail Rain (1.40m) and Reigning Star (1.40m).
Lot 10 Ludo, reg b c f by Grandorado TN out of Luidams Caprice (Luidam). Before retiring to stud, the dam competed in all the major young horse classes up to 1.35m level. The pedigree features the popular Luidam as the dam sire, while the second dam is a sister to the top-class Douglas Hill (1.60m), ridden by Martine Myhrer Dyngeland for Norway, and to the Portuguese-based Ballybur Don Clover (1.50m).
Lot 11 Celestine, reg ch f f by Casall out of Helena (Emerald Van’t Ruytershof). The dam jumped to 1.30m level under Alfie Bradstock, and is a sister to Bejona (1.45m) and closely related to Hercules R (1.40m). The pedigree is consistently solid and also features First Vleut (1.40m) and Hamar (1.50m), ridden in America by Laura Chapot.
Lot 12 Gypsy, reg b c f by Cornet Obolensky out of Gypsy Lux Valier (Lux Z). A half-brother to last year’s sale-topper, this colt is out of a full sister to Good Lux Lucy (1.50m) and Donogue Doctor George (1.40m) and is from the family of the home-based Grand Prix winner Liberation (1.40m). This colt has young siblings (Gypsy Prince and Ardkyle Gypsy) progressing well through the levels.
Lot 13 Unnamed, reg ch f f by Emerald Van’t Ruytershof out of Greenacres Quality (OBOS Quality). Already the dam of the Oliver Townend-ridden young event horse Fernhill Final Cavalier, the dam is a sister to the Australian-based LCC Lux Like Cavalier (1.60m). Adding further depth to this top-class pedigree, the second dam is a sibling to Vincent Byrne’s Mr Rockefeller (1.55m) and Chief (1.50m) and from the family of Drumaire (1.50m) and Cruisella (1.50m).
Lot 14 Ballyvella, reg b f f by Eldorado Van De Zeshoek out of Di Tangelo Toltien (Tangelo Van de Zuuthoeve). The second dam, Magix Toltein jumped to 1.20m and is the dam of Amigo Toltein (1.30m). The third dam meanwhile was the top-class Inan Toltein, who jumped to 1.50m with Johan Laseur (Ned). There are plenty of winners in the family which also relates to Hyan Toltein (1.50m), Omar Shariff (1.60m) and Empire (1.60m).
Lot 15 Tullogher, reg ch c f by Sirocco Blue out of Flourishing (Indoctro). Dam is a full sister to the exciting Paddy O’Donnell-RDS qualified six-year-old Tullogher Lady Liberty. The third dam Nolivia VDL has bred a host of graded horses and is from the family of Dragon Rouge (1.55m) and Vancouver VDL (1.50m).
