DESPITE intense heat all day, the June Horse & Performance Sales at Mullingar Equestrian held a successful sale when 50 Lots went through the ring with 33 sold.

Trade was steady with plenty of money around for good horses plus the big players were in evidence throughout the session.

Teddy O’Sullivan from Rhode, Co. Offaly, paid the top price of the day of €8,100 for the 18hh quality five-year-old gelding Du Rouet of Boherdeel (Royal Cavalier Lad- Easy Virtue) (Lot 55), sold by Lisa Bushway.

Active throughout was Trade Horse Ltd who purchased seven Lots including €3,500 for the handsome unnamed grey gelding by Coolillaun Cushlawn and Carnmore Starlight (Lot 12) and also paid €3,400 for D. Harrison’s black gelding George (Lot 55A). Trade Horse Ltd also paid €2,600 for Lisa Gerbola Bushway’s Ballynagall Beauty (Lot 60).

There was plenty of interest in Marie Helen Finnegan’s bay four-year-old gelding Zeebo (Lot 38) who was finally knocked down to Jim Derwin for €6,000. Zeebo had recent form at Balmoral in a ridden hunter class, and he looks like an exciting prospect with a lot of presence.

Derwin also went to €3,000 for Ned Mullingan’s bay four-year-old Churchtown Jamie (Lot 37) who was well hunted with the North Kildare Farmers and should make an armchair ride for his new owner. He also gave €3,500 for a nice five-year-old grey gelding Highwayman by Cap Norf D Hyrencourt (Lot 30) sold by J. Creegan.

Miley Cash was busy all day, he bought a lovely bay well coupled Connemara mare Cushlough Vixen (Robe Arrow-Cong Rebel Lady) (Lot 27) for €2,200. Cash said: “She rode really well and I always prefer bay Connemaras.”

Waterford’s Richard Fitzgerald got a few nice lots including Aidan Anderson’s grey five-year-old mare Iceford Alora from the nod of €2,450 and he also spent €2,100 on Michael Healy’s 11-year-old Connemara mare Corroy Lass (Corncullen Silver Belle-Maytime Mist).
