HEADING into week two of the six-day sale, it is the three-year-olds who take centre stage. For pinhookers and producers this is the most important feature of the marathon, and the catalogue of 441 lots appears to have plenty to recommend.
Black type pedigrees appear in abundance, and standing out among them is the gelding Boleybawn Genio (by Cicero Z Van Paemal) whose dam, BP First Editions (Verdi) won the five-year-old championship at the RDS in 2017. Adding to the attraction, she is a sister to the Olympic show jumper MHS Going Global, and from the immediate family of Ballypatrick Flight (1.50m).
The showmen are also well catered for and, in an innovative move, there will be a dedicated sector for pre-selected likely show horses on Tuesday. A large number of potential candidates, both three and two-year-olds, came forward for selection, and these were whittled down to just 16 by the very experienced panel of Rosemary Connors, Kieran Ryan and George Chapman. All have a full page in the catalogue, complete with photograph.
The stallion lists feature most of the well-known sires, and significantly the Coolballyshan resident duo OBOS Quality and Future Trend. The former has headed the stallion lists for almost the entire year, and once again dominates this entry with 26 progeny on offer. Stable mate Future Trend is also well represented with 12, as is Dignified Van’t Zorgvliet and Capri Van Overis Z (12).
The popular Sligo Candy Boy is also prominent with 10, while on the traditional front, the locally based thoroughbred Pointilliste leads the way with nine lots forward.
