THERE is a new look to the upcoming Goresbridge Select Sale of three-year-old show jumpers on Monday week, October 7th, as the horses catalogued will be loose jumped in numerical order in the late afternoon, with selling due to start at 7pm.

Twenty-three was the final number of lots put forward by Ian Fearon and Sally Parkyn, following two selection days at the Co Kilkenny sales venue. “We raised the bar even higher this year,” disclosed Parkyn. “We were really looking for elite athletes for the show jumping market.”

Referencing the fact that this is a select sale, Fearon commented: “People should bring out their best for selection. Horses should have it all – temperament, attitude, quality, be careful and scopey – and they should be nicely schooled and well-produced.”

This is just the fourth renewal of the sale, whose 2022 graduates include Rosconnell Tango and Ogue MBF, both of whom competed at last week’s world championships for young show jumping horses at Lanaken. A graduate of the 2021 sale, the six-year-old Emperor Augustus gelding MBF Up North has won five times under British Eventing rules this season.

The Co Waterford MBF operation of Meabh Bolger and Brian Flynn is associated with three horses at this year’s sale, including one they are consigning with Jason Higgins, who has another of his own to sell; Richard Power has two lots catalogued, while Trade Horse Ltd has three. That trio from Co Meath includes one by SHS Soco Blue, who is the only sire doubly represented in the sale.

SHS Soco Blue is also one of two Holstein stallions listed; there are eight lots by KWPN-registered sires, four by Belgian Warmbloods, two by Zangersheide-registered sires, two by Selle Francais stallions and two by Oldenburg sires. Three lots are by Irish Sport Horse sires, including one by the traditionally-bred Cruising With Diamonds.

The vast majority of the lots themselves are registered as Irish Sport Horses, including nine of the 10 fillies catalogued.
