HAVING opened the year promisingly, Cavan stages its third performance sale next Wednesday. Although fairly modest in number, the catalogue appears strong, with some notable performance stock holding entries. The younger age groups also look stout on paper, while the ponies – which are always solid sellers at the venue, are well supported. In the stallion ranks, the heavy hitter Sligo Candy Boy stands out with four progeny forward, while a further seven sires have two apiece.

Ponies

Lot 1 Bobby, reg 10 yo pbd m 148cms (no recorded breeding). Setting the ball rolling, this experienced mare has hunted for five seasons and has followed the Breffni Harriers for three. Described as safe and reliable, she is suitable for any calibre of rider.

Lot 3 Doadhbeg Boy, reg 7 yo pal g 148cms (no recorded breeding). Fully measured, this versatile jumping pony has a career total of 22 SJI points. Competing up to and including 1m level, he has also proved brave and honest when schooling across country, and would suit any equestrian disciplne.

Lot 7 Pippa (Simply Marigold), reg 6 yo b m 148cms by Moyan Mirah (CP) out of Dance with Destiny (Key of Luck). Featuring the popular Connemara/thoroughbred cross bloodlines, this young pony has competed in training shows. She has also hunted and is likely to make an event pony or a fun all rounder.

Lot 8 Clongeen Larry, reg 6 yo b g 148cms (no recorded breeding). Having only begun his jumping career last July, Clongeen Larry has clocked up 79 SJI points in classes up to 1.10m level. Fully warranted, he is well hunted and, brilliant cross-country, completed the Antler Challenge earlier this year.

Lot 19 Gort Jordan Barney, reg 5 yo gr g 148cms by Maecon Box out of Killaneen Cherry (Longstone Top Notch). One of several Connemara ponies catalogued, this gelding has well established flat work and shows potential when jumping. He is thought an ideal type to excel in the breed performance classes or as a working hunter.

Competition Horses

Lot 37 New Trend, reg 13 yo bl m 165cms by Future Trend out of Tulla Cavalier (Ard VDL Douglas). A half-sister to the event horse Tulla Inspector (CCI4*), this well related mare has bred four foals. As a five-year-old, she successfully competed in the IHB series and retired to stud having clocked up 19 SJI points. In the past six months, she has been competing in training shows and, well schooled across country, continues to show excellent ability in both disciplines.

Lot 48 Annaghmore Capitol Junior, reg 7 yo gr g 170cms by Quite Capitol II (HOLST) out of Shannondale Naomi (Darco). This gelding is competing to date in classes up to 1.10m level. The winner of 22 SJI points, he is suitable for an amateur and could either jump or event.

Lot 49 Holmoak Kina, reg 7 yo b m 163cms by Van Gogh out of Cina Von Worrenberg (Cador). Described as an ideal young rider’s horse, this mare has a career total of 37 SJI points won in classes up to 1.10m.

Lot 50 Galletta, reg 7 yo b m 162cms by Castlelawn Galloway out of The Foxy Mare (WRS Dalys Pride). Amateur ridden in classes up to and including 1.10m, this useful mare has clocked up 59 SJI points. Snaffle mouthed, she is easy in all repsects.

Lot 67 Princesse Ugano, reg 6 yo m 171cms by Ugano Sitte out of Princesse De Beaufour (Diamant De Semilly). Slowly produced, this well related mare has competed in training shows and schooled across country. She is from a top class family, being out of a full-sister to the stallion Open up Semilly (1.60m) as well as to another four jumpers at 1.35m -1.40m level. Dam is also a half-sister to Ipsy (1.50m).

Lot 77 Can Do It, reg 5 yo b m 163cms by Sligo Candy Boy out of Good Touch (dam’s sire is Touchdown but not recorded). This elegant mare by the popular Sligo Candy Boy, has won 6 points SJI points to date. She has also proved brave and careful when schooling across country, and looks to have a bright future in either discipline,

Lot 85 Ballybeechhill Oslo, reg 5 yo b g 168cms by Cavalier Cruise out of Rouburn Beach Light (Beach Ball). A carefully produced five-year-old, Oslo is well schooled across country, and is happy jumping drops, ditches, water and skinnies. The third foal out of the dam, he is a half-brother to Carnones Lucky Lady (1.10m) and has 35 SJI points.

All-rounders/hunters

Lot 42 Ballyfore Diva, reg 10 yo b m 170cms by Orestus out of Complicated (Ekstein). This experienced mare has competed in numerous pony club events including the John Ledingham show jumping competition. She has also competed in the inter schools championships, and has attended pony camp and general rallies.

Lot 46 Pandoras Charm, reg 8 yo gr m 155cms by King of Mourne (ID) out of Drumseek Beauty (Winged Love). For those who like the traditional Irish Draught/thoroughbred cross this small mare is easy and straightforward. She is currently competing at riding club and training shows at 90/100m level. She has proved brave across country, and is happy to hack out alone or in company.

Lot 59 Cahergowan Thunder, reg 7 yo gr g 157cms by Clifden Silver out of Snowdrop Lady (Coral Prince). This Connemara gelding has successfully competed at riding club events where he has been in the ribbons. He is also a seasoned hunter, rides very well on the flat and is a genuine fun all-rounder.

Lot 68 The Grange Lad, reg 6 yo ch g 160cms (breeding unrecorded). The Grange Lad has been hunted by a teenager this past season. He is happy to ride up front with the Master, but equally so to remain at the back of the field. Well schooled over hedges, wire, drains, gates et cetera, he is also making good strong progress on the flat and over show jumps.

Lot 69 Carrick, reg 5 yo ch g 168cms by Scrapman out of My First Lady (Ghareeb). Traditionally bred, this gelding was broken as a three-year-old and has hunted a full season with the Scarteen foxhounds. Never missing a meet, he has also competed in jump cross and training shows.

Three- and four-year-olds

Lot 94 Templerainey Tysons Treat, reg 4 yo b f 163cms by Tyson out of Lachain Becky (Russel). This well related, correct filly has been to a few training venues and shows. She is the first foal out of Lachain Becky, who is a sibling to the American-based event horse Lachain Guy (CCI2*), Lachain Cruise Dancer (1.35m) and Lachain Crux CNC1*.

Lot 95 Grovehill Candy Girl, reg 4 yo br f 160cms by Sligo Candy Boy out of Grovehill Lady (Mohil Cavalier Clover). A full-sister to Grovehill Candy Cavalier who, having won 31 SJI points in Ireland, is currently competing in Scotland. Having been broken in and trained by John and Tadhg Mulligan, she has schooled cross-country and has competed at training shows.

Lot 101 Beaugh Bawn, reg 4 yo dn g 150cms by Loughmor Macdara Og out of Trabane Lady Ann (Moxy Johnnys Pride). Described as having HOYS potential and a definite for the RDS Connemara performance classes next year, this correct dun Connemara is likely to excel in both ridden and working hunter classes.

Lot 105 Simon, reg 4 yo gr g 173cms by Corporal VDL out of Drumlin Inspiration (Hermes de Reve). Simon is the third progeny out of the grade A jumping mare Drumlin Inspiration.

Lot 109 Templerainey Dignity, reg 4 yo b m 168cms by Dignified Van’T Zorgvliet out of Tina Lux (Lux Z). This filly would be suitable for all disciplines. She has attended training schows and has schooled across country and, well related, she is a sibling to Kizimikazi (1.40m). The second dam is the thoroughbred mare Jogatina (1.40m) who competed in the Junior European Show jumping championships and is the dam of Cooley on Show (CC15*)

Lot 111 Haslemere Jenny, reg 4 yo b m 165cms by Numero Cruise out of Haslemere Sabina (High Roller). This mare is competing at 90cms level to win 2 SJI points to date. A half-sister to the British-based young event horse Haslemere Prince (sold at Cavan for €27,500), she is riding nicely on the flat and has been schooled across country

Lot 133 Unnamed, reg 3 yo b f by Corporal VDL out of Lady Faye (Cougar). One of 13, three-year-olds holding entries, this filly is a half-brother to the German-based young event horse MBF Flagstone Flyer. She is unbroken, but is showing huge potential.
