Championships end on a high note

AFTER a successful eventing league hosted over August and September, Killossery Lodge Stud completed their series last Sunday with their Eventing Championship for which riders had to previously qualify in the relevant classes. Gain Equine Nutrition kindly sponsored the amateur classes last weekend.

The open one-metre class was won by Peg McMullin on Ballinteskin Rebel only adding one fence in the show jumping to her dressage sheet to finish on a winning score of 26. In second place was Declan Crowley on Rockfield Robin.

The five-year-old class was won by Fraser Duffy on Fernhil Muse (Mermus R x Galway Bay Panache) who having only qualified last week, completed on his dressage score.

Samantha Bretzer on Lishmar Timmy led from the beginning to end on a score of 27 in the U-20 one-metre class. Second place went to Emma Carry on Belle Izarra Z with Ally Gormley on Meko lying in third, narrowly missing out on the runner-up slot.

The Gain Equine Nutrition one-metre amateur class was won by Emily Singleton who works as the headgirl for Sarah Ennis, on Stellor Quick Change.

The open 85cm was won by Stephanie McGlynn on Doon Ciana Rose, who had to rush off to the Curragh as she had a horse running there. She finished on her dressage score to take home her Killossery rug on the day. Kate Solon and Oakport Ringo Star came second with Jennifer Byrne on Merlot finishing third.

It must have been a lucky day in the McGlynn house with Molly McGlynn taking first place on Kildangan Rob Roy in the U-18 class. In second was Grace Dehaene on Derrypatrick Dream with Clodagh Gillic on Windtown Peggy coming third, just a point behind.

The Gain Equine Nutrition 85cm amateur class saw first place going to both Bella Donna Diamond (Susan Cahill) and Raise the Bar (Aoife Darcy) with Louise Somers on Indian Mist in third place.

With €300 up for grabs for the winner, the open 70cm was won by Niamh Grimes with an impressive 28 on her four-year-old Ainninn Arabella (Lionwood Kinsale’s Lad x Vrench Gomery K). Sara Wood and Avalon Next Generation took second and Sarah Steen on Percy was third.

Win for Martin

Finally, with over €700 in total prizes for the U16 70cm, the class was won by Evan Martin on HB Miss Kizzy, a new ride for Evan after only having the mare for six weeks. Killossery Lodge’s Combined Training League starts on October 10th and this combination will be in action for that. In second place was Ellen McGrath on Rusty, a regular face at Killossery with third going to Poppy O’Dwyer on Puzzle.
