SIBLINGS Alex and Ben Connors enjoyed a good day at Grove last Sunday, winning two classes between them and well placed in others.
First up, the pair went head-to-head in the EI 110 (J) with Alex and OLS King Aragon picking up the red ribbon, ahead of Ben and OLS Queen Bee in second spot.
It was a great family result, and made sweeter by the fact that both horses were also home-bred and both out of the good international mare Just Beauty Queen. Amelia McCarthy with Finsceal Endeavour were third.
The cross-country proved quite a test for these juniors, four of whom failed to complete. Among these was Alex O’Hare who had a horrid fall from the experienced Alcatraz at the oxer to corner complex at the seventh.
The new partnership of Carla Williamson and Ardeo Fireman continue to shine, as they landed a hat-trick of wins in as many runs in the EI 110 (P). The pair produced a double-clear round in a class in which just two completed from three runners.
A beautiful dressage test of just 20.8 earned Oleana Cowan and Ballylea Roller their third seasonal win in the EI 100 (P), leaving Carla Williamson (Rockon Pedro) and Alex Connors (Our Girl) to fill second and third in dressage order.
Another new pairing to score were Gearoid Bolger and Into Mischief, winners of the EI90 (J). On their very first outing together, the duo led from the front to better Poynstown Cubby (Isobella Donohue) as well as Annie O’Neill with Castlestrange Misty Boy. All 13 were clear in the country.
Finally, Ben Connors put up yet another good display to win the EI 90 (P), also from flag fall. Riding the Connemara pony Sandys Boy, he completed a hefty nine marks ahead of Sarah Archdeacon aboard Ballymac Buachaill.
