Under-age EI 110 round-up \ Sally Parkyn
TED O’Leary’s winning EI 110 (J) dressage test with Silver Brog was very smart, but an expensive error in the show jumping left the field wide open. Benefitting to take the eventual top spot was the consistent Matthew Kelly (Ah To Be Sure) from Hazel Barden riding the thoroughbred Loughnavalley. Unsurprisingly, the latter were the sole combination to gallop home within the time allowed, leaving O’Leary to fill third.
Landing back-to-back wins from her two runs this season, Georgina Pettit took the honours in the EI 100 pony division. The Co Wexford-based 15-year-old teamed up with her conflictingly named grey Ballyerk Black Beauty to record the only double clear of the class. The 11-year-old Connemara gelding (by Joyces Cuckoo), who was sourced three years ago, has been produced from scratch by Georgina, with help from her uncle Kieran Furlong. The pair will have a short break now, with an upgrade to two-star level as the early season aim. Time faults in the country proved costly for the three remaining runners, with Ciara O’Connor settling for second with Agharanny Minstrel, from Ava Dowley (Cullion Kamira).
