JINNIE Webb’s ever impressive Shannondale Icarus won Section A of the five-year-old class at Rincoola on Wednesday, recording a wide-margin victory under regular rider Louise Bloomer.

A €23,000 graduate of the 2015 Go For Gold Sale, the Shannondale Sarco St Ghyvan gelding was third in the 2016 Stepping Stones To Success league but won it comfortably this year while also landing an EI100 class at Rosanna in late April, on his sole one-day start to date.

Recording one of only two clear jumping rounds in his section, Shannondale Icarus topped the ridden display marks on 150.50 and also found favour with two of the three suitability and potential judges to complete on a total of 407.60.

Webb’s winner was bred in Co Clare by Mary Walsh out of the Cavalier Royale mare Shannondale Melodie. He is a full-brother to the three-star international eventer Shannondale Mel and a half-brother to the two-star show jumper Lux Harmony (by Lux Z).

The second qualifying ticket on Wednesday went to MHS Fernhill Showtime (385.35), a grey Cavalier Royale gelding ridden by Fraser Duffy for Carol Gee, while Sarah Ennis just failed to clinch a qualifying spot when third with Clive Corrigan’s Clover Brigade gelding Marbridge Diamond Imp (384.40).

Jonathan Mulligan’s good season in these classes continued on Wednesday when he qualified in first place in Section B with Mervyn Gibson’s Balmoral winner Randalstown Commando who was fourth in Dublin last year.

Recording one of just two clear rounds, the bay Ricardo Z gelding topped the ridden display marks (155 points) and two of the three suitability and potential scores to complete on 408.85. The winner was bred in Randalstown by Sam McAteer out of the Parco mare Randalstown Once Shy.

Having qualified here last year for Dublin, where she finished second, the Lancelot mare Colacentric showed her liking for the Co Longford venue by taking the second qualifying ticket on Wednesday under her owner Alyssa O’Neill. The grey recorded the other clear round in Section B and beat Randalstown Commando by a point (29 to 28) when it came to Alain Storme’s assessment in the Derby Arena.

Lydia Dawson, having tasted Dublin performance championship success twice with the Connemara gelding Gloster Boy, was delighted to qualify in third place here with her mother Helena’s Steppe Dancer gelding Steppe Rebel (397.95).

The ridden display judges at Rincoola were Vida Tansey and June O’Reilly, flat suitability and potential was assessed by Jacki Doherty and Caroline Bjoerk, while Marion Condron was judge for the presentation phase.
