But she is a big supporter of the FEHL and had six horses at Rincoola on Wednesday, winning the five-year-old qualifier with Woodcourt Garrison.
“This fellow was only broken at four and then left off,” said Ennis of the bay gelding who is by the Irish Sport Horse stallion Garrison Royal. “I did some hunter trials with him and a couple of legs of the Stepping Stones league. He also had a run in the ISH class at Killossery but I took him handy enough there and we had some time penalties.
“The plan would be to do one or two more FEHL qualifiers and a couple of pre-novice classes. He is owned by Breda Kennedy from Co Laois who also had his full-brother, Major Furisto (117 Eventing Ireland points).”
Woodcourt Garrison, who was bred by Patrick Kearns out of the Furisto mare Davitt Star, topped the ridden display marks and, scoring consistently high with the suitability judges, held on to win in spite of lowering the troublesome planks.
Emma Jackson likewise had six rides on Wednesday and took the second qualifying slot here with J.P. Finlay’s much-admired Master Imp mare Cuslas Skyimp who also competed at Killossery Lodge last month where she picked up 20 jumping penalties across the country.
Bred by William Donegan out of his well-related Sky Boy mare Sky Blue Rose, the bay was third to her stable-companion Waterloo Sunset at Balmoral and won the second of the Stepping Stones qualifiers.
Jackson also qualified on Pat Cassidy’s third-placed Major Gold gelding, Sharp Diamond, a palamino who certainly stands out among the crowd and won a pre-novice at Tullymurry last month.
Often a judge at this Co Longford venue, Gerry Flynn competed on his own VDL Arkansas gelding, CLH Moves Like Jagger, a grey out of a Lucky Valier mare who has also done a little bit of show jumping as has the David Maher-ridden Pharaoh R who impressed Alain Storme but lost points in the presentation phase.
