Irish horse triumphs
FRENCH rider Nina Mallevaey and the David Prentice-bred My Clementine (ISH) sped to victory in Wednesday’s $32,000 1.45m Two-Phase at the five-star fixture at the World Equestrian Festival in Florida, USA. Mallevaey has been paired with My Clementine, a 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare by O.B.O.S. Quality x Kashmir van Schuttershof, for less than a year, but this is their fourth international win together. Previous victories include a two-star Grand Prix in Valkenswaard (NED) a five-star speed class at the 2024 Washington International Horse Show, and an Under 25 Grand Prix last month.
Susan Morris RIP
SUSAN Morris (née Curran) of Newrath House, Waterford, died on February 2nd after a sudden illness. Beloved wife of the late Michael, adored mother of Faith, Susannah and Richard, cherished sister of Elaine, Anne, John and Richard, she will be greatly missed by her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and her wide circle of friends. A respected member of the Kilkenny Foxhounds, hunt chairman S. D. Rafter gave the following message of condolence: “On behalf of the masters and committee of the Kilkenny Foxhounds, I want to express our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Morris family on the sudden death of Susan. Susan was a longtime supporter and former member of the Kilkenny Foxhounds. Her death is a huge loss for the hunting community in Ireland. May she rest in peace”.
Kearney elected chairwoman
Para Equestrian Ireland has announced that Paralympic medallist Helen Kearney has been elected by the board as the new Chairwoman. Helen’s incredible career has inspired so many, from winning Ireland’s first European para equestrian medal to securing three medals at the London 2012 Paralympics. Her leadership, dedication, and passion for the sport will undoubtedly drive Para Equestrian Ireland forward. “I hope that I can do a good job for the members,” Kearney said. “I have gotten so much from PEI and para equestrian sports so if I am able to give back in any way I will be delighted.
