IT’s a busy weekend on the Irish Pony Club front and we’ll start in Co Cork where, tomorrow, the United and Araglen Branches are holding the final of the hugely popular Area 5 arena eventing training league at Ballindenisk.

Going into the finale, Grace Wycherley leads the 100cm league on 27 points with Caheragh Lad; riding Carnaby Diamond, Zoe Boyle currently tops the 90cm league leaderboard with 22 points; Emily Macken (Royal Diamond), Ella Forristal (Bandit) and Julie Mulcahy (Moet & Chandon) share the lead in the 80cm league on 17 points apiece; and Kesha Harding leads the 70cm league on 23 points with Kestrels Strawberry Bon Bon.

The league leaders will be pleased to know that double points will not be awarded in the final.

Moving west where the Co Limerick Branch is holding a fun Minimus and Tetrathlon tomorrow with classes from Seniors down to Fledglings. The swim and shoot phases are taking place at the University of Limerick with the run and ride phases being held at the Clonshire Equestrian Centre.

Also tomorrow, the Meath Branch is holding the third qualifier of their spring show jumping league at the National Horse Sport Arena, Abbotstown where there will be courses from cross-poles up to 1m. The league final takes place at Emerald on Sunday, May 11th.

The action continues over the Easter holidays and, on Tuesday next, April 15th, the Equieire/IPC national dressage day takes place at CoilÓg in Co Kildare. On Easter Monday, the Duhallows will be running their Greenvale Transport Champion Stakes Race at Cork racecourse, while the Mackeys/IPC national hunter trials take place at the Ballycahane Equestrian Centre in Co Limerick on Saturday, April 26th.

On the social front, the Meath Branch is holding a ‘Starry Night’ junior hunt ball on Thursday, April 24th in the Headfort Arms Hotel, Kells.
