THE Meath Branch of the Irish Pony Club commenced its spring inter club show jumping league last Sunday at the Broadmeadows Equestrian Centre near Ashbourne, where the hosts dominated proceedings.

While most classes were well-filled, there were just seven entries in the 1m section, where the honours went to the Meath’s Zara Cogan riding her father James’s 12-year-old Connemara gelding Clonlara’s Mighty Grey (by Clonlara’s Maam Hill Houdini).

The other outright Meath winners were Hugo Reynolds on Steel (50cm), Niamh Maguire riding Sandy Joy (60cm) and Rose Reynolds with Cotterstown Dun (70cm). Representing the Ward Union Branch, Ailbhe Tormey won both the 80cm and 90cm classes on Pippa. Fourteen combinations divided the opening cross-poles class.

The league continues on Sunday, March 16th at Emerald Equestrian and on Sunday, April 13th at the National Horse Sports Arena. The final will be held at Emerald on Sunday, May 11th.
