ST Paul’s Secondary School, Oughterard, hosted a most enjoyable TRI Equestrian Interschools competition in Ower Equestrian Centre, Galway last Sunday.

St Mary’s New Ross, represented by Ava Donovan riding Junipierre, Martha Power on Tomello, Katie Costello riding Autumn and Eva Kent and Milchem Havana, made their trip west worthwhile, when they gained 10 points in the TRI Equestrian open teams league. This is their fourth win of the season.

The TRI Open Individual league competition went to Ronan Gilvarry riding The Hilly Billy for Presentation Headford. Isabelle O’Conaola riding Bobby’s Womanizer from St Brigid’s Loughrea was second, with Cushla’s Shancoduff RS and Anna Gibbons for Salerno and Doireann Clancy on Knockillaree Brilliance for St Paul’s in third and fourth respectively.

The TRI Equestrian Premier 110 qualifier was claimed by Anna Gibbons riding Oilean Dunlop for Salerno. Second in the TRI Equestrian open individual, Isabelle O’Conaola, also gained a qualifying slot, as did its winner Ronan Gilvarry, this time partnering Dexter Liam Prancer.

Novice

In the Hopoti novice teams class, victory and the red rosettes went to the Presentation College Headford team of Eva Connell on Kilwatermoy Lady, Claudia Reilly on Belle our Golden Heartbreaker, Dara Reynolds riding Technical Tom and Amelia Dobrowolska and Dromalga Darcy. The host school, represented by Charlotte Osborne on Coco, Ella Heraty on Jazz, Doireann Clancy and Coshla Sparrow and Eabha Joyce riding Donnie, were runners up and Clifden Community School, with riders Clodagh O’Toole and JJ, Aoife Nee riding Starlight, Keris Mae O’Toole and Timmy and Aoibheann Joyce riding Zai came third. The Dominican College team, Heroes Sliver and Ava Joyce, Mouse ridden by Cara Rooney and Curraghmore lmp and Lily O’Keeffe were fourth.

Novice qualifier

The Equieire novice 90cm qualifier was won by Keris Mae O’Toole riding JJ for Clifden Community School. Other qualifying spots were claimed by Eabha Joyce on Donnie for the host school, Hannah Lawless riding Derrymullen Louis from St Brigid’s College, Loughrea, Cliona Foley from St Paul’s on Knockillaree Leona, Claudia Reilly riding Belle our Golden Heartbreaker from Presentation Headford and Kitty Bradley Donohue on Castlebin Split Second representing St. Killian’s College.

The Hopoti novice 80cm class saw a victory for Tristan O’Conaola riding Cqs Caliope and representing St Brigid’s College Loughrea. Saoirse Steele Duffy, representing Archbishop McHale College, came second and Hannah Lawless on Derrymullen Louis from St Brigid’s Loughrea was third.

Little Miss Lightning, ridden by Lucy Murtagh from Lisheenkyle NS won the EII primary individual league class. St Paul’s also ran a series of fun classes from cross-poles to 60cm.

Action this weekend moves to JAG Equestrian Centre, where Julie Ann Gaffney and her team are the hosts.
