THE TRI Equestrian Interschools event, which had originally been scheduled for September 29th, was postponed due to weather conditions and ran instead last Sunday, hosted by Orla Roche and her team at Wexford Equestrian.
The TRI Equestrian open team league event was well supported. The three-person team from Borris (VS Bailey and Cathy Doyle, Ah to be Sure ridden by Rosemary Dundon and Ironhills Shooting Star and Darragh O’Brien) took the honours, with a very credible clear round. Untouchable Royale ridden by Owen Carroll, Lurgan Diamond Lass and Noah Sinnott Murphy, Catch Me Now and Lilly Walsh from Bridgetown were runners up, with the team from Kilkenny College in third. Kilkenny was represented by Gypsy Junior and Ned Kelly, Carton Trending ridden by Lilly Redmond, Aloe Blacc ridden by Micheal Bowe and Isabel Smithwick riding Dondoe Don’t Forget. Remaining league points were gained by Presentation Wexford, St Mary’s New Ross and Gorey CS.

Open individual
The TRI Equestrian Open Individual league and the TRI Premier 110 qualifier classes followed and both were claimed by Ciara Ryan from St Mary’s New Ross. She rode Mr Fred in the 1m class and partnered Lily Belle in the 110. Kyle Cummins from Good Counsel riding Billy Ignite was the runner up in the 1m, with Alexander Cassidy riding Coolwood Prince for Gorey in third place. Remaining league points were awarded to Ard Scoil na Mara rider Julie McDonald on Shanbo Hazels Boy, Danny Costello riding Cornello Cuvvaghmore from Good Counsel and St. Leo’s Carlow’s Katie Doyle on Bradley. The other qualifying spots in the TRI Equestrian Premier 110 went to Conor Cusack from St Declan’s on Krafty Time Hunt, Bridgetown College’s Noah Sinnott Murphy on Breehill Superstar, Ciara Ryan on her other mount Mr Fred, Gorey Community School’s Lexie Brennan on Ballinduff Boy and Kyle Cummins from Good Council riding Billy Ignite.
Novice teams
The Hopoti-sponsored Novice teams was also won in fine style by a three-member team - Caton Fought on La Vie Est Belle, Ava Rose Berg on Knockma Girl 2 and Little Miss Sunshine ridden by Deryn Ryan, from Newbridge College, ahead of St Mary’s New Ross and Tullow Community School. The St Marys team included Clodagh Murphy on Minnie, Bayo and Hannah Hennessy, Mai Donovan on Raven and Kate Kavanagh on Swan view Cream of Dexter, while Tullow was represented by Lumcloon Max and Lauren Kehoe, Draught Lady and Orla Dalton, Una Farrell and Khaleesi Storm Born and Hershey’s Kiss and Cillian Tobin. Hopoti also sponsored the Novice 80 class. The red rosette was awarded to Louise Dalton representing St Leo’s Carlow and riding Monarch of the Glen, with Ramsgrange CS pupil Brooke Sutton McGarry on Snowflake and Gorey CS pupil Michelle Murphy on Annie Lady in second and in third.
Equieire 90cm
The Equieire 90cm class produced some fine jumping rounds. Already victorious in the previous novice class, Louise Dalton representing St. Leo’s Carlow and again riding Monarch of the Glen, posted the fastest time being clear in 35.08 to pip Brooke Sutton McCarthy from Ramsgrange CS riding Achill, who was just two seconds slower. Molly Hennessy Murphy riding Coppenagh Comet for St. Mary’s New Ross was third. Remaining qualifier places went to Robyn Fitzgerald, Muireann Tooher and Dearbhla O’Dwyer.
The fun primary teams event commenced proceedings, with red ribbons being presented to Kiltealy NS, ahead of Rathangan Wexford NS in second and Mayglass in third. The primary individual events followed, with victory in the fun 55cm class going to Reece O’Brien riding Blackwater Bobby and to Austin Murphy Lookout Atlantic Charm for Rathangan NS Wexford in the 75cm primary individual league. Wexford also ran a 90cm class, sponsored by Aloga, which is part of its own league, confined to primary pupils, which was won on the day by Kiltealy national school pupil, Cathal Coleman riding Castle List Tina.
The league moves to the Midlands this weekend and is being hosted by the Fagan family at their own Mullingar Equestrian Centre.
