TWENTY-two teams went to post on the penultimate day of the Equestrian Interschools Ireland League, hosted by Borris Vocational School at Coilog Equestrian Centre.
As teams gear up for next week’s final, everyone was happy to take on the fine track presented by Chris Byrne in the Open section.
The St Gerard’s Bray team of Emma Ward, Isabelle Owens, Harriet Bernon and Claire Fisher took the win and the Eamon Kavanagh Memorial Cup in fine style in the jump-off from St Paul’s Monasterevin.
Claire Kavanagh on Clonagoose Daniel Dubh from the host school Borris won the Open individual class with one of only two clear rounds in a time of 25.42 from Lucy Ross, Newbridge riding Littlefield Clover 27.52. All 20 riders in this class are now looking forward to what will be a very competitive class on the final day.
Mercy School Longford made the trip worthwhile by taking the first two slots in the HSI 1.10m class. Last to go, Katelynn Kilkenny 37.02 pipped her schoolmate Erin McCormack 39.40 with Patrick Doyle from Borris taking third.
There was plenty of competitive action in the Novice team competition, with again just two teams making it to the jump-off. The Borris Vocational/Loreto Kilkenny Team of Jack Griffith, Caoilfhionn Ni Stoiri, Caoilfhionn Lawlor and Caelinn McCabe taking the honours from Newbridge College.
Tara Fogarty, Presentation Kilkenny, took the individual class from Hannah Kelly, Castledermot.
All the young riders in the Primary Competition showed a great standard of jumping, with the Kildangan team of Halfords taking home the spoils.
Borris Vocational School greatly appreciate the support of the sponsors, and all the volunteers who helped make the day a great success.
