THERE were only three entries in the three-year-old lightweight geldings class at Balmoral last week but it was a case of quality over quantity with the winner, Regina Daly’s Say No More, going on to claim the youngstock championship.
Beautifully shown by his owner’s sister, Jenny O’Driscoll, as he was when winning the all-Ireland at Charleville in early August, Say No More was bred by Anthony Sheridan – who stands his sire, Chillout – out of the Clover Brigade mare Jimmys Wish.
Watching on ringside was Sheridan’s daughter Fiona, equestrian manager of the Dublin Horse Show, who reported that her father has retained two full sisters to the Balmoral champion while the dam produced a full bother this year who is “a replica” of Daly’s winner.
Reserve three-year-old was John Roche’s medium/heavyweight class winner, the home-bred Assagart Hopes And Desires (by Castleforbes Lord Lancer).
Standing reserve to Say No More in the championship was the champion yearling and champion filly, Oakleys Lady Captain.
By Clonaslee Captain Cristo, the bay was bred by her owner, Oakley Sport Horses’ Claire Shearer.
She is the only foal out of the Chippison mare Killycloghan Lady Chip who died a couple of months ago.
On Wednesday, she was led up by Shearer’s partner, David Kinkaid, who also showed her to win the exhibitor-bred championship where Michael Lyons stood reserve with the two-year-old champion, Daphne Tierney and Jane Bradbury’s Dignified van’t Zorgvliet gelding, Bloomfield Breagura.
