JUST one judge was required for the low-key show staged by the Midland and Western Region last Sunday at Drumindoo Stud, where the role was filled by Dublin-based David Lee (List 3).
Three riders recorded doubles, Sadhbh O’Toole doing so at Elementary level on her Dutch Warmblood gelding Next Diamond. In the DI46, the combination scored 71.73% while, in the DI50, O’Toole and her six-year-old Daily Diamond bay won with the highest score of the day, 71.90.
Runner-up in that four-runner DI50 on 64.48% with Forest View Anne, Amy McDonagh had earlier won the Novice DI26 on 66.03 with her 17-year-old black mare. There were three starters in that class and just two in the DI23, where Lilly Berry McLaughlin, a member of the Clew Bay Branch of the Irish Pony Club, completed her double with the Connemara gelding General Sinatra (68.06), a 12-year-old grey by General Humbert. The Westport combination got off the mark in the 10-runner Preliminary DI15 where they scored 70.54.
Cathal Owens topped the overall leaderboard in the first Preliminary class, the DI4, with the unregistered Irish Sport Horse mare Pepsis Command (64.80%), a five-year-old bay by Island Commander out of a Limmerick mare.
Emma Golden saw off two rivals to land the Trailblazers’ Preliminary class on her father Brian’s Connemara gelding Moone Sparrow (69.60%), a 16-year-old roan son of Prince Of Thieves, while Bethany Light recorded uncontested wins in both Medium classes (71.45 in the DI62 and 70.76 in the DI72) on her Dutch Warmblood gelding Eastwood, a 15-year-old bay son of Schumacher.
