MADAM,
I am writing to express the growing frustration within the equestrian community regarding Horse Sport Ireland’s (HSI) ongoing issues with the issuance of foal kits and passports. The delays and lack of communication from HSI have become a significant concern for breeders and horse owners across the country.
Despite HSI’s own timelines, we are experiencing unacceptable delays in receiving essential documentation. These delays are not just minor inconveniences; they disrupt breeding schedules, sales, and the overall management of our horses.
Additionally, attempts to contact HSI for updates are often met with silence or inadequate responses, exacerbating our frustration and leaving us in the dark.
It is perplexing that the registration process for cattle in Ireland operates with much greater efficiency. This disparity raises a fundamental question: why is HSI lagging so far behind?
The agricultural sector has demonstrated that timely and efficient registration systems are possible, even for large-scale operations. HSI must look to these examples and implement similar efficiencies.
To regain the trust of the equestrian community, HSI needs to take immediate action. This includes streamlining their internal processes to ensure timely issuance of foal kits and passports and establishing clear, reliable lines of communication with breeders and horse owners.
Transparency and accountability are key to restoring confidence in HSI’s ability to manage this critical aspect of our industry.
The current situation is untenable. We urge HSI to address these issues as a matter of priority. The well-being of our horses and the success of our breeding programmes depend on it.
Yours etc,
Emily Cooper
