THE third leg of the Kavanaghs of Newbridge autumn dressage league was held by Killcarrick Riding Club at Redhills Stud in Kildare last weekend, where the McGlynn family picked up multiple rosettes.
Hosted by Jenny and Karl Heffernan and sponsored by TRI Equestrian, the day’s competition was a fruitful one for the host club, which provided the winners of four classes.
The first to collect a red rosette was Kim Kearns in the primary class. Kearns posted an outstanding score of 70.40% on Truly Madly Chadly, which left her clear of Siobhan Harris on Dicksgrove Jewel for Ballyteague RC, who scored 63.70%. Third home was Sharon Conroy of Winterdown RC, on Candy, with 60.40%.
Trish McGlynn was the second Killcarrick member to emerge victorious. Second to go in a class of 14 intermediates, McGlynn won with a score of 72.85 on her homebred mare Salalah Princess Khareef. This proved just enough to keep Olwyn Alexander in second place on a score of 72.38%, with Santero, for Greenhills RC.
Fionnuala O’Connor, also from Greenhills RC, had the same score on Mighty Clever but Olwyn’s collectives marks were just a single point higher to take the win.
Not to be outshone by her mother, Stephanie McGlynn won the sportsman class on Sam, with 67.62%, for Killcarrick RC.
Joe Craig from Annaharvey RC finished second on 66.90% on Bertie Wooster and Jill Casey (Greenhills RC) collected the yellow ribbon with Tigs N Jigs, scoring 65.95%.
KILLCARRICK DOMINATION
Susann Killilea and the lovely black gelding Asterix, competing at only his second show, scored 65.43% in the walk/trot test and completed the quartet of victories for Killcarrick.
The advanced primary class was keenly contested and Jean Halpenny found her winner in Michelle Wright (Ballyteague RC) and Panda Bear, who scored 69.29% to pip her clubmate Roma Murray and Slieve Bloom Kaiser, who finished second on 68.59%. Tina Deane and Sorrento were hot on their heels with a score of 68.33% for Calliaghstown RC.
Clare Fitzsimons judged the open class and it went to Greenhills RC member Lianne O’Shea, who scored 67.76% on Bento Van De Noordheuvel. Orla Harrington and DBS Goldfever (Dunbyrne RC) weren’t far off the mark in second on 66.90% and Fiona Doggett and the dun mare Jasmine (Cill Dara RC) shadowed them with 66.72%.
The last class of the day was the advanced intermediate and the victor here was Leanne O’Sullivan who rode a lovely, flowing test on Ballysax Alice for Cill Dara RC. Their score of 69.48% just denied Killcarrick rider Genna Kavanagh the victory. She posted 69.31% to take the blue rosette on the smart chesnut Royoco King. Helen Alexander (Greenhills RC) took third spot on Chatsworth Lux with 66.72%.
The next leg of the Kavanaghas of Newbridge league will take place at Dunbyrne Stud on October 23rd.
