Derwin is the Star of the Month
CONGRATULATIONS to Francis Derwin, who was voted The Irish Field/Gain Equine Nutrition Star of the Month for November. Francis was nominated after winning a 1.55m three-star Grand Prix in Vejer de la Frontera with Parvati AEG. In August, Francis won team gold and individual silver at the Young Rider European Championships with Flexi K.
Get The Irish Field on Christmas Eve
THE next edition of The Irish Field is out on Christmas Eve. It will contain Irish and British racecards for St Stephen’s Day and Irish cards for December 27th, along with entries for the remainder of the holiday period. The 112-page edition will also include the remainder of the sport horse year in review, including a look back at international and national dressage, showing, pony show jumping and the Connemara year in review.
Lord Patrick Connolly-Carew RIP
LORD Patrick Connolly-Carew sadly passed away on December 18th. The 7th Baron Carew died peacefully aged 86 years in the wonderful care of The Residence, Maynooth, surrounded by his family. Among his many equestrian achievements, Lord Carew represented Ireland in eventing at the 1968 and the 1972 Olympic Games. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and father-in-law. He will be greatly missed by all his family, extended family and friends. A private family-only funeral and burial will be held. A memorial service will be held at a future date.
SJI Roll of Honour
SHOWJUMPING Ireland held an evening of celebration on Tuesday at the RDS, when honouring the national winners of 2024, as well as the European medal winners. Inducted into the SJI Roll of Honour were: Noeleen Kerins (Connaught), Eamon Rice (Ulster), Tony Hurley (Munster), Michael Hennessy (RIP, Munster), Candy Cusack (Munster), Ivan McDonogh (RIP, Munster), Tommy Veale (Munster), Francis Connors (Munster), Joan Keane (Munster), Andy and Mary Hughes (Leinster), Ita Brennan (RIP, Leinster), Seamus and Anne Hughes (Leinster), Henry Bateman (RIP, Leinster) and Michael Murphy (RIP, Leinster).
HSI recruiting
HORSE Sport Ireland is recruiting for a dressage High Performance manager and a para dressage High Performance manager. Both job purposes are listed “to provide leadership, management, and strategic direction to all areas relevant” to developing the sport in Ireland. The positions will focus on the delivery of the High Performance plan 2025/28 and on performance targets up to and including the 2028 LA Olympic/Paralympic Games and their campaign. The managers will report to the Head of Performance and the CEO. Closing date for applications is January 13th.
