AREA 17 representative Liz Lowry was delighted with last weekend’s area Tetrathlon, the run and ride phase of which took place at Kircubbin.
“It was a really good area competition,” she commented. “Eamon O’Flynn provided a great cross-country course and the good weather really helped the event run off smoothly.
“Our friends from IPC seemed to have had a very enjoyable trip and we were so pleased they came to join us. It’s a good idea for them to compete in this area event so they can learn the slightly different rules that we use.”
John Flood, the IPC’s ever enthusiastic international Tetrathlon trainer, was also full of praise for the event and was delighted with his team’s performance.
“We all had a great time and the good results are just what was needed before we head over to England early next month,” he stated.
PLEASED
Kircubbin landowner and cross-country course designer Eamon O’Flynn was another who was pleased with the weekend.
“We really enjoyed having the Pony Club here,” he commented. “There were a lot of people up from the south and they all stayed locally, filling hotels and B&Bs. The North Downs organised a barbeque here in the yard on Friday night and it was very enjoyable.
“It was disappointing that there weren’t more clear rounds at the higher grades. The tracks were built up to height and seemed to cause a few problems but riders will need to cope with courses like these if they want to go away on teams,” concluded O’Flynn.
