RACHEL Carton, secretary of Letterkenny Riding Club, had to pull in to the side of the road when driving home from work last Saturday.
There was nothing untoward, bar the fact that she couldn’t miss watching the final race of Royal Ascot 2024, the Queen Alexandra Stakes over two miles, five and a half furlongs, which was won in impressive fashion by the Joseph O’Brien-trained favourite, Uxmal.
More importantly – as far as Rachel was concerned – the five-year-old Galileo gelding was partnered by Co Donegal-born jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle, who she taught to ride. With her mobile out already, she immediately sent Dylan a congratulatory message. This was a first success at the famed flat meeting for Dylan, who had 19 rides there last week.
