A CHAMPIONSHIP double for owner Daphne Tierney and producer Jane Bradbury commenced in Ring Two at the Tattersalls July Show on Wednesday morning when Michael Lyons showed Bloomfield Silverado to win the young horse title.
The OBOS Quality grey, who is out of the Glidawn Diamond mare Glidawn Delight, first won the three-year-old geldings’ class ahead of John Bannon’s unnamed Vivant van de Heffinck bay who has qualified for the loose jumping competition at Dublin.
The reserve champion was John Roche’s Assagart Theatre, a bay newcomer by the sadly-exported Jack The Robin out of the Colin Diamond mare Assagart Velvet who had a colt in 2022 and a filly in 2020 by the same thoroughbred stallion. In winning here, Assagart Theatre qualified for the all-Ireland at Kildysart.
Also up from Co Wexford, Maurice Wafer showed another debutant, Parkmore Viva, to win the three-year-old fillies’ class. A daughter of Vivant van de Heffinck, this bay is out of the Wafers’ wonderful broodmare, Parkmore Evita (by Ghareeb).
Comber’s David Kirkpatrick won the Connolly’s Red Mills all-Ireland qualifier for two-year-old colts or geldings with the Gamut bay Redwood Scooby Doo who was champion at Armagh, reserve champion at Lurgan and finished third in his sport horse class at the Royal Highland Show.
“Daphne bought Silverado privately as a foal from his Co Tipperary breeder, Jim Seymour,” related a delighted Jane Bradbury. “He’s a full-brother to Bloomfield Distinction who won the hunter championship here last year. He’s now six so he was sold to England at the end of May and has already won at Bramham and at the Great Yorkshire Show. This fellow was second at Gorey on his only outing last year and was also second at Balmoral in May this year.”
While poorly-supported numberwise there were some smart young horses in this section which was judged by John Ryan who, through his Abbey Stables, is a major consignor to the sales at Tattersalls. He is selling Lots 19 and 262 here next Tuesday.
