Open morning

JP DEMPSEY Racing in Kilkeaskin, Carbury, will be holding an open morning on Saturday, May 18th in aid of St Brigid’s Hospice on the Curragh. Admission is free but donations will be accepted at the event which will be held from 10am to 12pm.

New partnership

ARKLE Saddlery, stockists of all leading equestrian apparel and horse gear brands, announced its new sponsor partnership with Donohoe Showjumping and Alderbrook Stables. Alderbrook Stables is home to iHightower, and Halloberry CoCo owned by Padraic and Kieanna McGreal. Leskinfere Polly, owned by Mrs Jill Acton, is also part of Jim Donohoe’s showjumping team for the 2019 season.

Connolly’s Red Mills and Foran Equine were credited in having a ‘crucial role in the development and performance of the Alderbrook horses’.

Ian Millar retires

CANADIAN legend Ian Millar this week announced his retirement from international show jumping at the age of 72, after nearly five decades at the top level. He will now focus on coaching and developing young horses. Millar has represented Canada on more than 200 Nations Cup team, at 10 Olympic Games – a world record – 10 Pan American Games and seven world champions.

He won a team silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and has 10 Pan American medals, including two individual and two team gold medals.
