THIS lovely trophy, commemorating the late Clodagh Connors, is presented to the winner of the side saddle class at Dungarvan Show which takes place on Thursday, July 25th, at Ballygagin on the outskirts of the Co Waterford town.

The trophy has been won for the past three years by Clodagh’s sister Claire who is targeting the class again with her Harlequin du Carel gelding, Rehy I’m A Star. Angus McDonnell is also returning to Dungarvan in a bid to reclaim the Bellard Cup with his Ricardo Z gelding Statesman, ridden hunter champion in 2018.

Former winners of the Bellard Cup who went on to RDS supreme championship success include the Rosemary Connors-produced trio of Woodfield Indo, Woodfield Alight and Woodfield Valier.

In addition to a full showing programme for horses and ponies, the show also features show jumping and one can expect appearances from locals such as Francis Connors, Nicholas Connors, Paddy O’Donnell and Gemma Phelan. Perhaps there will also be appearances during the day from some of those competing in the nearby Camphire international horse trials.

The full schedule can be found on the show’s website and owners and riders should note that entries close on Wednesday next, July 17th.
