THERE has already been a very positive reaction to the recent announcement of a new Connemara sale at Goresbridge. Aimed specifically at performance Connemara ponies aged from three upwards, this special sector will be held on the opening day of the six-day September flagship renewal on September 4th.
This news will come as a welcome boost to breeders and producers in the south of the country, as Ed Donohoe explained: “Geographically, we are extremely well-positioned to facilitate breeders and producers of Connemara ponies, who have previously had to travel to Clifden.
“I have been thinking about it for some time and, in the course of recent conversations with people, I feel that there is a real opening to stage a showcase sale for performing Connemaras. We have the facilities here to allow them to show their ponies to the best of their abilities, and our pony day at Goresbridge on September 4th, gives us a natural opening to include it.”
The native breed has always filled an important and influential role on the pony trade at Goresbridge and, in anticipation of a strong demand, those with part-bred ponies will be encouraged to enter the usual pony sector.
In line with the usual Goresbridge vetting procedures, buyers will have the reassurance that all ponies will be sold with a veterinary certificate and, of course, can be examined if required.
