ST LUKE’S Horse and Pony Derby Show is the new name for the charity fixture being held at Kilronan Equestrian Centre on Sunday next, June 2nd, as the annual event, formerly confined to ponies, has been expanded to include horse classes.
The action is due to start at 9am with the lead rein pony Derby. The morning session will then continue with separate classes for horses and ponies competing over tracks ranging from 60cm to 80cm.
In addition, there will be welcome Derby classes for thoroughbred horses at 70cm and 80cm. After 1pm, there will be classes for both horses and ponies over 90cm and 1m tracks.
The two thoroughbred classes are being sponsored by Treo Eile, while the organisers are delighted with the continuing support they have received from loyal sponsors for all other classes. We were intrigued to see that the 80cm Pony Derby is being sponsored by ‘The Lively Ladies’! Sponsored by Doramic Tiles Ltd, a rosette and €30 will be presented in each class for the best turned-out combination.
According to her mother Jane, this Derby show was a favourite of the late Tiggy Hancock, so Tiggy’s Trust is supporting two championships on the day, one for the 60cm to 70cm classes and one for the 80cm to 1m classes.
As usual, the fixture is being run in aid of Friends of St Luke’s for Cancer Care. See the show’s Facebook page for further details.
