KILDYSART Agricultural Show society will host their 80th Annual Show in Kildysart on Saturday, August 3rd. Support this year from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and Horse Sport Ireland, along with all their loyal sponsors, gives them the opportunity to reward the breeders of elite top-class horses.
There will be classes for Irish Draught mares, heavyweight mares, lightweight mares and a class for a mare and foal judged as a unit, with increased prize money in all classes to be won. This year, with HSI’s support, there will be a new class for the champion broodmares of the show, with a €2,500 prize fund. All prize winners in the four mare classes will be eligible to compete in this Championship, with 10 prizes on offer.
In the young horse section, there is a yearling class with a €450 prize fund and €650 for the three-year-olds. The champion and reserve yearling, two-year-old and three-year-old will each receive €250 and €100. The Supreme Champion of Champions, selected from the champions and reserves, will receive the Kieran O’Sullivan Perpetual Cup and €1,000, reserve €250 and a merit award of €100.
The Irish Shows Association All-Ireland two-year-old filly €3,500 final is the last big event of the day, with qualified fillies competing from all over Ireland.
Last year, due to poor weather, the show jumping was relocated across the road and this proved so popular that it will stay in the same ground again this year. There will be two arenas, with 16 classes and a prize fund of almost €3,000. The horse classes will be incorporating the Munster Development League at levels 1m, 1.10m and 1.20m, as well as amateur classes and 80cm, 90cm.
The highlight of the pony classes is the ever-popular Michael Hogan Shannonside Competition. This is an exciting jump-off competition for 128cm, 138cm and 148cm ponies with a prize fund of €1,000.
All horse classes start at 11am, show jumping classes begin at 9.30am. For more information, visit www.kildysartshow.ie.
