THE Tara Harriers’ Ladies’ Day last weekend was a resounding success, drawing participants from across Ireland and the UK for a thrilling and memorable day in the countryside.
The meet took place at the picturesque Old Rectory in Kilmessan, where hosts Sally Ann Cooney and Stephen Dillon generously opened the gates to their stunning property for the gathering. Attendees enjoyed refreshments before the off, with the warm hospitality setting a cheerful tone for the day. Over 90 mounted riders turned out for the event, accompanied by many enthusiastic followers on foot. The sight of impeccably turned-out ladies and their mounts created a vibrant and elegant atmosphere.
The excitement began immediately, with everyone tackling a testing hedge and ditch in the opening block. As the hunt progressed, the group made its way towards Dunsany and on to Arlonstown, navigating a challenging variety of obstacles. Riders demonstrated their skills over double ditches and gates, with the Tara Hill landscape offering the perfect blend of thrills and breathtaking scenery.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the very supportive landowners, whose land was crossed during the day. Their generosity and cooperation are integral to the success of events like this, and organisers are deeply grateful for their support.
The celebrations continued after the hunt at Fergie’s Bar in Kilmessan, where the atmosphere was lively and full of cheer. The highlight of the evening was the horse box raffle, won by Brendan Murray, much to the delight of all present. Live music kept spirits high, and great fun was had until late into the night, rounding off a perfect Ladies’ Day. The hunt extends thanks to the generous spot prize sponsors - Boardsmill Stud, Hunting Attire Ireland, Showtime Equestrian, and Ebony Rose.
Ladies’ Day proved to be a true celebration of tradition, sport and community spirit. The event highlighted the enduring appeal of the hunt and the friendships it fosters, leaving participants eager for the next adventure with the Tara Harriers.
