A REMARKABLE hat-trick of wins was completed last Sunday afternoon in the GS Equestrian Pony Club Mini Major competition at the London International Horse Show, for which eight 128cm pony riders had qualified during the summer months.
Following 10-year-old Cliodhna McEvoy’s success in 2021 on Tynnan Tuttle Pip and that of the year-older Juliana Nelson on Cumbak Kid last December, it was the turn of 11-year-old Serena Brown riding Maxmilo to record a third win in a row for not only Area 17 of The Pony Club, but also for the Iveagh Branch.
Cliodhna was paired with Britain’s Laura Renwick back in 2021 but, for the past two years, Norway’s Geir ‘Jimmy’ Gulliksen has partnered the young Iveagh riders to victory in the ExCeL Arena.
Serena on Maxmilo and Geir Gulliksen on Nand van’t Bergske rode a fantastic relay to finish in a super-fast time of 21.99 seconds, which could not be beaten. Cliodhna and Juliana were in the crowd cheering Serena on – just as Serena had done for Juliana last year!
