New fund aims to support Irish breeders and horses

A NEW fund to support the breeders of Irish horses in the disciplines of show jumping, eventing and dressage has been created as a result of ideas put forward by members of the Irish Horse Breeders group on Facebook.

Named the ‘Irish Horse Breeders Supporters Fund’, and driven by group admin Conor Sheridan, it is described as a “grassroots movement to help support the breeders of Irish horses competing in show jumping, eventing and dressage nationally and to celebrate the achievements of sport horse breeders in Ireland.”

A Go Fund Me page has been set up for the fund, with the goal of raising €20,000. Members of the group, and the wider sport horse industry, are being asked to support the cause with €10. The fund will be split across the three discipline, with show jumping and eventing receiving 40%, while dressage will be allocated 20%. The show jumping prize will go to the most consistent horses across the 2021 Youngster Tour; in eventing, it will be awarded to the most consistent horse across the national Eventing Ireland calendar; in dressage, the winner will be the most consistent young horse between four Dressage Festivals and the seasonal summer and winter championships.
