Newcastlewest Show will be back!
THE hardworking committee of the Newcastlewest Agricultural Show were saddened to announce earlier this year that the 2021 show would not go ahead due to the current pandemic. However the committee are determined to bring back the show to all its glory in 2022 and wish to remind the public that the show has gone nowhere – it will be back!
Kindly hosted each year on Terence Leonard’s farm, the show is an integral part of the market town of Newcastlewest and has been for over 100 years – with the centenary show being held in 2018. With a show schedule discovered dating back to 1918, there is a long-standing history of showing in the town of Newcastewest.
The Newcastlewest Show always hosts an amazing variety of events, from cattle to sheep, and various different trade stands.
Horses are a huge attraction to the show with classes to include loose jumping, many showing classes from young stock to broodmares, working hunter and show jumping classes up to Grand Prix level.
The Show committee is very proud of the loose jumping competition run at the show each year. The inaugural loose jumping competition was created at Newcastlewest Show.
As this became more popular and successful in discovering young horses, the Dublin Horse Show approached the Newcastlewest Show organisers to ask could they use the idea of a loose jumping competition for their show. Now the Newcastlewest Show hosts one of the RDS qualifiers each year.
