CHARLEVILLE Park Showgrounds recently played host as a new venue for the Limerick Polocrosse Club’s annual polocrosse tournament which saw enthusiasts travel from all over the country to the Co Cork venue to attend.

Players from polocrosse clubs Carrickmines, Equus, Horeton, Silver Spurs, Birr, Wicklow Bay and of course members of the host club of Limerick Polocrosse were in attendance.

The competition ran smoothly, with the ground conditions being praised as perfect and those behind the scenes at the showgrounds were more than accommodating to the polocrosse community.

The Limerick Polocrosse Club especially thanked the sponsors of the event, Orchard Equestrian, Crecora Mills, Charleville Park Hotel, Pat O’Shea, Charleville and Tracey Roofings and also club members for their donations of both prizes and time to allow the event to be a success.

The Limerick club welcomed two teams from the Italian Polocrosse Association to compete at the tournament. They competed in the C grade competition and are making some great advancements in the sport considering polocrosse is a relatively new sport in Italy. The tournament ran in a ‘mix and match’ format. Clubs submitted their players as individuals and then each player was allocated a team based on their grading. Each rider had to play to the best of their ability and adapt to their new team members for the weekend who they most likely had never played against before!

WINNERS

In the A/B grade the winning team were Team Elise – Elise Beausang, Theo Boland and Sam Hanlon. The best player at this grade was awarded to Sam Hanlon and the best horse was Amy Buckley’s mount called Stella (whom were players on the team that placed third.)

In the C grade competition, Team Naomi took the title with players Naomi Crowley, Ella Stokes and Paul O’Gorman.

The best player at this grade was Johnny Carroll (his team placed second) and the best horse title was given to Whisky ridden by Ella Stokes.
