OVER the years at Dublin Horse Show, Simmonscourt served as a training ground for course designers, stewards and judges.

The personnel who work there are known for their hard work ethic and their can-do attitude. Despite the long hours, all agree what makes it worthwhile is the atmosphere and the people around them that they work with.

Friendships are forged here and many continue to work in Simmonscourt for years. This year a few notable figures were sadly missed.

On that list was course designer Alistair Megahey, FEI Steward Peter McIntyre and four-year-old judge, Tom O’Dwyer.

As a show of appreciation, the personnel in Simmonscourt asked for a minute’s silence for those that have passed and this took place in the Main Arena last Saturday.

A plaque for Alistair Megahey, who passed away last year will also be placed in the garden of remembrance in the RDS. In the garden situated behind the Equestrian office the wall contains the wording, “In the garden of happy memories, it’s always summer.”
