OVER 40 years going strong, there was a great turnout for Whites Cross Charity Show held in the grounds of the Munster Agricultural Society, Co Cork.
Show director Michael Hennessy thanked everyone for their support and said they are on target to raise €8,000 again this year.
The feature event, the final fo the National Top Oil Ladies Championship with a prize fund of €3,000, saw 40 starters line out over Tony Hurley’s demanding course. Galway girl Aoife McCabe proved more than well up for the challenge, taking the winner’s spoils with her Irish-bred Carramore Oasis and the crown for the SJI National Ladies Champion 2018. The runner-up was Galway’s Jessica Lee (Harry Beau Bay) and third went to Cork’s Melissa Joyce (Milan Cruise).
Clare’s Aisling McGrath triumphed with the Irish-bred Ti Amo Darcy in the final of the Horse Sport Ireland Amateur Championship with €2,500 on offer over Tom Noonan’s track. Meath’s Jacqui Boland (Maverick Na Ri) was second and third was Galway’s Orla Dixon (Try Me). In the Dunmore House Hotel 1.20 horse class, the win went to Cork’s Helen Gould (Coolatin Little George).
PONIES
Alan Molan put it up to the pony riders in the 148 1.10m with Waterford’s Saoirse Curran (Aherlow Boy) winning with Ryan Sweetnam in second with new pony Nora. The Hennessy Service Station 128 90cms went to Waterford’s Ellen Power (Sasha) while Cork riders took the spoils in the 128 classes with Lucy Brady (Mister Proper) and Seamus Hennessy (Ballylinn Champ) in the 138 1.10m Darcy Design HQ respectively.
