IRELAND’S Jack Ryan rode Calgrafi DWB to win Sunday’s one-star 1.30m jump-off class at Gorla Minore in Italy. Ryan was one of 43 starters in the class and one of 10 who jumped double clear rounds. He and his mount stopped the clock in 36.05 seconds, more than a second ahead of the next fastest combination, Italy’s Rebecca Ghersel on Filiberto (37.30), with third place going to German rider Nathalie Fichtner on Neugschwents Concordia (37.41).
Ryan went on to take the runner-up position in the three-star 1.35m Accumulator on board Cornascriebe Emerald, when achieving the maximum score of 65 in a time of 51.61. He was beaten by the narrowest of margins by Swiss rider Jean-Maurice Brahier on the Irish-bred Ardkyle First Edition, who clocked 51.59.
St Tropez-Gassin
Meanwhile in France, Ireland’s Graham Grant, with both Joker des Flagues and Nikka du Seigneur, was among the joint winners in Thursday’s one-star Young Horse six-year-old 1.20m class at St Tropez-Gassin.
Grant then placed eighth in the day’s two-star Medium Tour 1.35m speed class with Kastafiore DB and took sixth place in Friday’s Young Horse Six-year-od 1.20m class on Nikka du Seigneur.
Saturday saw Grant place fourth in the Young Horse Six-year-old 1.25m Final with Nikka du Seigneur, when they jumped double clear in a jump-off time of 44.06. The rider then took the runner-up spot in the Young Horse Seven-year-old 1.35m final on board Miss Jet Set DB, jumping double clear in a time of 43.32. They were only beaten by Arnaud Fontenelle (FRA) on Copy Harry Z in a very fast 41.33.
