ON the point-to-point scene, well-known sport horse breeder/producer/owner/rider Richie O’Hara saddled the Delton Syndicate’s Kilbuny Supersonic to win the five-year-old and upwards maiden at Lingstown on Sunday on her fourth start between the flags.
The 2020 Harzand mare, who justified favouritism by a length and a half in the hands of Sean Staples, a former member of the Killinick Branch of the Irish Pony Club, had to survive a stewards’ enquiry before being declared the winner. The bay is a half-sister to the Getaway mare Kilbunny Pontic, who won a point-to-point, a bumper and a hurdle for Richie and his father and namesake, Richard.
“Unfortunately, she lacerated a tendon when winning that hurdle at Tramore (in October 2022), but we were able to save her for breeding,” revealed Richie. “She has a yearling filly by Workforce and had a colt foal last month by Diamond Boy. I’m delighted that the sister won on Sunday, but I don’t know where we will go with her next. It would be great if someone came in and gave us a lot of money for her, then I wouldn’t have to think about it at all!
“I have six pointers in for the season, but was slow to [get] them going, as I had five sport horses to prep for the Monart Sale in early November and then I broke my foot.
“I’m only back riding since last month, but have a good lad here helping me with both the sport horses and thoroughbreds, Culann Walsh Kelly, who led up the mare on Sunday. I hope to be back out competing in a month’s time, as I’ve a nice string of show jumpers just coming to hand.”
