ST Kieran’s College held their annual leg of the TRI Equestrian-sponsored Interschools show jumping league at the Topflight Equestrian Centre, Warrington, last Sunday.
The Novice team competition started off the day with 16 teams competing for the coveted prizes. First place went to Borris Vocational School with Mosie Murphy (Trickery Stephen D) and Tess Staunton (Full of Promise) representing their team mates Caoilfhionn Lawlor and Jack Griffith. They cleared the course in a combined time of 73.95 seconds. Second place went to Newbridge College’s black team and third went to Presentation Wexford. The Best Turned prize was awarded for the third year running to the Newbridge College black team.
Hannah Groves and Mille took home first place in the Novice competition, followed by Cian Byrne on Monghanstown Rose in second and Aaron Doyle on Daddys Dollars in third.
Competitive action
The main event was the TRI Equestrian Open Teams competition. In what was a very competitive jump-off between Borris Vocational School, St Kieran’s College’s white team, Wesley College and Gorey Community School, Borris VS were triumphant. Whizzing around the course on a combined time of 76.45 seconds were Patrick Doyle (DJ) and Catherine Kavanagh (Coppenagh Blitz) representing their team mates Claire Kavanagh and Aoife Murphy. Wesley College took second and Gorey Community School took home third. The best turned out prize again went to Newbridge College’s black team.
The strongly contested Open Individual section saw Claire Kavanagh of Borris Vocational School and Clonagoose Daniel Dubh take first prize in a time of 34.82. Chloe Hughes Kennedy of Presentation Secondary School took second place on 38.24 and David Parle, St Kieran’s College, was third in 38.81.
Tribute was paid by hosts St Kieran’s College to the Moloney family as well as all the students, parents and all the sponsors who helped make this event a success. Sponsors included Gain Equine Nutrition, Connolly’s Red Mills, Euro Farm, CF Pharma, Ballyquirke Limousins & Sport Horses and Foulkstown Feeds.
The next interschools round will be held at Kildare’s JAG Equestrian Centre today (Saturday).
