WATERFORD’s Paul Beecher moved back to the top of the Connolly’s Red Mills Munster Grand Prix league with victory in the 15th round of the series at the Limerick/Clare Branch show in Crecora last weekend.
Not long ago it looked as though reigning champion Francis Connors was beginning to pull away at the top of the table but a brilliant run of results by Tallow-born Beecher and the eight-year-old Danqu has overturned the defecit and they now hold a seven-point lead over Connors and Capitol Cruis.
jump-off
Beecher and Danqu produced the only double clear round (43.89 seconds) of the contest, where just three combinations made it into the jump-off.
Conor McMahon finished as runner-up with King Lux after having one fence down against the clock, in a faster time than David Moran and Derg Showtime who came home in third.
Nicolas Connors and Lantino 31 had the fastest four fault score from the opening round to finish fourth, with Maura Counihan (Killerisk Minnie) in fifth andRonan Costello (Annestown Clover Concorde) in sixth.
The next round of the league will take place at Limerick Show on Sunday, August 28th, following which just two rounds of the league will remain at the Munster Show and Banteer.
