TALLOW, Co Waterford’s Paul Beecher extended his lead at the top of the Connolly’s Red Mills Munster Grand Prix league, with victory in the sixth round of the series at Ballinamona in Co Waterford.
Beecher and the eight-year-old gelding Danqu, came out on top of after a hugely competitive jump-off, which saw all of the top eight finishers jump double clear rounds. The result is the third Munster Grand Prix win for Beecher this year, having previously won at Kingdom County in Co Kerry and Bandon in Co Cork.
It was a Waterford white-wash, with all of the top eight finishers coming from the Deise, including Aglish-born Tholm Keane who took the runner-up spot aboard Delano W. Peter Moloney, who was the winner last time out at Maryville, added to his points tally when finishing third with Arbutus Ohio.
Reigning Munster Grand Prix champion Francis Connors came home in fourth place with Capitol Cruise while Peter Moloney also filled fifth place with Cherubini Z. Cappagh’s Gemma Phelan completed the top six with Loughnavata Indigo.
The league now moves to Killeagh in Co Cork, for the seventh round of action tomorrow (Sunday).
