THE second leg of the Linda Moore autumn show jumping league took place in the West Leinster region last Sunday, September 4th at JAG Equestrian in Rathmore, Co. Kildare.
This autumn the popular show jumping league will run into November and will consist of eight legs of competition hosted by different riding clubs.
Members can compete to win prizes on the day and to earn points towards the overall league results and prizes. Hosted by Winderdown Riding Club, riders at JAG Equestrian competed in six graded classes over a track designed by Julieann Gaffney.
The primary, advanced primary and sportsmans classes ran on an optimum time basis meaning that riders who completed a clear round closest to the optimum time set placed highest.
As it turned out there was only one clear round in the class of five horse and rider combinations.
This gave the first win of the day to Karen Ferris, who competed with Mary Kane’s mare Royal Silver Flight for Greenhills Riding Club.
Second place went to Samantha Kenny from host club Winterdown, who had four faults with Borora Breeze.
The advanced primary class had 10 entries and resulted in two clear rounds. Eloise Mc Neely and Glenmullen Zelda had the best time and took first place for Winterdown riding club ahead of Deirdre Fitzgerald and Mademoiselle Millie from Abbeylands.
The sportsmans class was open to riders graded intermediate and above and took place over the advanced primary track.
Again this class produced two clear rounds allowing Ann Benson and Barney from Abbeylands to take the win over fellow club member Jurgita Zelvyte, who finished in second place with Onslow.
shortened track
The intermediate, advanced intermediate and open classes were decided by a jump off round against the clock over a shortened track for riders who returned on zero faults from their first competition round.
The intermediate class had 24 entries and six of these went clear to progress to the jump off stage.
Leonard Ramsbottom and Spirit from Oakleaf Riding Club were the only pair clear in the jump off in a time of 44.42 seconds.
Mary O’Driscoll and Megan from Abbeylands were the fastest horse and rider combination with four faults allowing them to take second place.
In the advanced intermediate class seven of the 19 entries took part in the jump off, which resulted in four clear speed rounds.
Jacqui Boland from Killossery earned her second league win in the class riding a clear round against the clock on Maverick Na Ri in 38 seconds. Olwyn Alexander took second place for Greenhills, clear with Santero in 39.58.
The open class had five entries and culminated in a two-way jump off. Roland Dalton and Mrs. Maggie from Greenhills were clear in 45.64 to win the class. Emer Hegarty and The Dambuster from Cill Dara took second place, clear in 47.05.
The league continues on Sunday, September 18th when Killcarrick Riding Club host the third leg at Punchestown.
