THE Corrandulla leg of the SunshineWindows.ie 1.35m Connaught Grand Prix League, sponsored by Kenny Galway, took place in perfect grass conditions last Sunday.
Some 29 horses battled for places over Killian Clarke’s challenging track and nine made it through to the second round.
Raphael Lee gave a classy display on Daddys Dollars to open the jump-off, completing in a time of 41.05 seconds but with a fence down.
Fresh from his win in the previous 1.25m Eurohome class with Castlelawn Kannan, Shane Dalton was next to tackle the track.
Riding Belfields Captain, with whom he won the Headford leg of this league, he sped around the course dislodging nothing to stop the clock in 38.53.
All the remaining competitors faulted. Joan Greene finished her round with four faults in 37.37 with Coolgrange Cruising to finish second, while Raphael Lee’s time put him third.
Mark Duffy and the veteran Puesta De Sol was fourth, while fifth place was filled by Shane Goggins and the enormous Defi Big Time.
With much encouragement from his fans, Daren Hopkins set off at a great pace on Furisto Cruise who was going brilliantly until he took exception to the last fence. His four faults in 47.41 put him into sixth place.
Catriona Fallon with HHS Bay Hill had two fences down to finish seventh and Sven Hadley and Quanbell also had eight to finish eighth.
The win keeps Shane Dalton and Belfields Captain at the top of the leaderboard with 21 points. Daren Hopkins with Furisto Cruise lies on 14 and in third place with 11 points is Catriona Fallon and HHS Bay Hill.
