Four-star Grand Prix win for Garrigan
DUBLIN’s Matt Garrigan scored one of the biggest victories of his career when winning the four-star Grand Prix in Prague, Czech Republic, aboard Quantum Robin V (Carambole x Stakkato). The big jumping 10-year-old gelding was one of just five clears in the first round from a start list of 50. Against the clock, the combination produced the only double clear to win in 46.74 seconds and earn €13,250.
Four-star win for O’Connor
CIAN O’Connor won the opening class at the four-star show in Valkenswaard, The Netherlands, last week. Riding Susan Magnier’s 10-year-old mare Innisfree, he was the best of 20 clear rounds in the 1.45m two-phase class to land victory ahead of Saudi Arabia’s Kamal Abdullah Bahamdan (Kwikly) in second and Dutchman Lars Kersten (Hallilea) in third. Tom Wachman won a two-star two-phase at the venue riding the 10-year-old mare I’m Here, owned by Coolmore Showjumping.
Sweetnam second in Dinard
SHANE Sweetnam collected €100,000 when finishing runner-up in the five-star Grand Prix of Dinard, France last Sunday with the Patrick Connolly-bred Irish Sport Horse James Kann Cruz (Kannan x Cruising), while Mikey Pender finished in seventh place with a double clear aboard another Irish Sport Horse, the Ita Brennan-bred HHS Calais (Cavalier Royale x OBOS Quality). Victory went to Austria’s Max Kuhner with Elektric Blue.
