Twomey fourth in Hamburg Derby

AT the five-star show in Hamburg, Germany, defending champions Billy Twomey and Diaghilev collected €12,000 when finishing fourth in the Hamburg Derby with the fastest four-fault score in the first round. Slovenian rider Pato Muente took the winner’s prize of €30,000, with the only double clear of the competition, aboard Zera.

Ryan placed

LIMERICK’s Eoin Ryan picked up a number of placings in Ciekocinko, Poland, last weekend. Beginning in Wednesday’s CSIYH1* seven-year-old 1.30m class, Ryan produced Castello 227 (Cassini I x Lasino) to finished in fifth place, before going on to finish fourth in Sunday’s final with a clear round in 62.53 seconds.

He picked up another fifth in Friday’s two-star 1.35m aboard Pascalino 7 (0/62.37), ahead of Clare’s Eoin McMahon and Lami (0/67.54). in Sunday’s one-star 1.35m, Ryan was fourth with Cacadu Boy (Chintan x Rhodos 45), just picking up four faults in a time of 44.78 seconds.

Mayo’s Alex Duffy also picked up placings at the Polish venue. He was fifth in Saturday’s two-star 1.35m aboard Jacardo van de Eyckenhoeve, picking up a time fault in the second round, and eighth in the one-star 1.25m, two places behind Eoin McMahon and the Irish Sport Horse Fts Killossery Konfusion (SIEC Livello x Cruising).

Pender wins

KILDARE teenager Mickey Pender picked up a win at the three-star Nations Cup show in Lisbon, Portugal, in last Sunday’s 1.40m two-phase competition. Riding Team Z7’s Laith (Lord Z x Weinberg), Pender was the fastest double clear in 25.80 seconds to picked up €1,500. That win came after the 10-year-old stallion had two good placings earlier in the week, third in Thursday 1.45m and seventh in Friday’s 1.45m jump-off class.

Pender also placed seventh on his Nations Cup mount, Team Z7’s Can Ya Makan (Canturo x Fier de Lui Z), in Thursday’s 1.50m, clear in 69.67 seconds.

MacKenzie in good form

CO Antrim’s Shannon MacKenzie enjoyed a good show in Bonheiden, Belgium, last weekend, picking up two wins and placings. In Saturay’s one-star 1.20m, MacKenzie was victorious with Chanel IV, clear in 56.38 seconds. The Randalstown-based rider picked up another win on Sunday in the two-star 1.35m aboard the Irish Sport Horse mare Castletara Lady lux (Lux Z x Cruising) (0/0 20.92). That result followed on from Thursday’s fifth place in the 1.30m.

Marshall third

HARRY Marshall recorded a good third-place finish in last Friday’s 1.50m jump-off class at the three-star show in Reims, France. Riding Chirokko M (Diamant de Semilly x Chin Chin), he produced a second round clear in a time of 42.26 seconds. Marshall earlier picked up another third in the one-star seven-year-old 1.35m class with Follyfoot Dolce Vita DB Z (Diamant de Semilly x Canturo).
