Vilamoura win for Campbell
KILDARE show jumper Gerard Campbell won last Sunday’s 1.30m at the three-star show in Vilamoura, Portugal. Riding Coldplay I, he lodged a clear in 63.65. On Thursday, the combination took the runner-up place in the 1.30m and fourth in Thursday’s class.
David O’Brien placed in Tryon
GALWAY ‘s David O’Brien finished fifth in last Thursday’s FEI $37,000 Horseware Ireland 1.50m Welcome Stakes at the three-star show in Tryon, North Carolina, USA. Riding El Balou Old, he delivered a double clear in a time of 39.62. Conor O’Regan and Mendini Dr completed the top-10 line-up when they had one on the ground in a time of 40.74.
In the three-star $139,000 1.50m Grand Prix last Saturday, David Blake was best of the Irish finishing in ninth place with Keoki when he had just one pole on the ground in the first round in a time of 77.11 seconds
Sixth place for Alex Baker
BRITISH-based Irish dressage rider Alex Baker and the 14-year-old KWPN gelding Dutchman scored 70.425% for sixth place in the Freestyle to Music class at the three-star sow in Le Mans, France last Saturday. Irish national champion Dane Rawlins (Espoire) placed 11th on a score of 67.850% with Amsterdam-based Jennifer Harnett (Eximio) in 13th on 67.230%.
Winner of the class was Belgium’s Larissa Pauluis with Flambeau on a 76.010% total. Irish pony rider Ellen McDonald and the 12-year-old chestnut gelding Dante Alighieri scored 67.207% for sixth place in the FEI Pony Individual Test class and 67.619% for sixth in the FEI Pony Team Test class.
