WEXFORD’s Bertram Allen won last Saturday’s 1.45m jump-off class at the two-star show in Lier, Belgium.

Riding Ballywalter Farm’s nine-year-old gelding Calafrieda (Canto x Lavall I), Allen was among 22 clears in the first round of the world ranking class. Eleven combinations went on to produce a second clear against the clock and Allen’s time of 36.09 seconds was the fastest, earning him €6,250.

Belgium’s Frederic Vernaet slotted into second place with Euptric van Beek (0/0 36.80), ahead of Brazil’s Bernardo Alves in third with El Torreo du Muze (0/0 38.07).

Allen was second in Sunday’s seven-year-old 1.35m final riding Harmonie L. Some 56 seven-year-olds started the class with 20 progressing to the jump-off. Allen was one of 12 double clears rounds and collected €500 when slotting into the runner-up position in a time of 39.60 seconds. Victory went to Belgium’s Jeroen De Winter.

Allen also finished sixth in Sunday’s two-star 1.40m two-phase with the eight-year-old stallion Quarisma della Caccia. The huge class saw 108 start and 38 produce double clear rounds.

Louth show jumper Kevin Thornton won Friday’s seven-year-old 1.30m aboard Uburon BVBA’s flashy grey Majinski vd Watertoren (Cornet Obolensky x Chin Chin).
