LIMERICK show jumper Shane Carey continued his recent run of good form at the three-star show in Lillestrøm, Norway, when winning the 1.45m ranking class and placing third in the Grand Prix.
Riding the super consistent nine-year-old mare Fecybelle, who is owned by Maria Gretzer, Carey’s victory came in Thursday’s 1.45m jump-off class.
The combination were the fastest of seven clear rounds in the 10-horse jump-off, ahead of Sweden’s European champion Peder Fredricson and Zacramento.
Carey finished second in the 1.40m two-phase on the same day aboard Boomerang, a 13-year-old bay stallion by Orlando. He was a second slower than the winner, Norway’s Lisa Ulven.
Sunday’s 1.50m Grand Prix was a competitive affair with some of Europe’s best riders lining out. Some nine combinations made it through to the jump-off, including German riders Christian Ahlmann and Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann.
Carey’s clear in a time of 38.11 was only good enough for third place on this occasion, and €6,563.
Victory went to Fredricson and his 2017 European championship mount H&M All In.
